The European Centre for Jewish Music Ensemble is part of the 'European Centre for Jewish Music' of the 'Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover' (Hannover University of Music, Drama and Media), Germany.
The Ensemble essentially performs art music written by Jewish composers of all epochs.
The Ensemble also has the mission to not only to perform works by well-known, but also to showcase works of little-known composers. As such, a main goal of the Ensemble is to premiere newly-discovered material as well as the re-discovery of under-researched artists.
The musicians who perform in the Ensemble are not permanent, so for each concert a new line-up takes place, varying in number of musicians and instrumentation.
Each concert of the Ensemble has a theme. The one chosen for the debut concert is Jewish Women Composers.
The artistic director of the Ensemble is the composer and musicologist Dr. Jean Goldenbaum, lecturer and researcher at the 'European Centre for Jewish Music'.
